Karen Keith is a Louisville native and founding shareholder and partner of McMasters Keith Butler, Inc.

Her practice includes medical malpractice defense, professional liability insurance defense, general insurance defense, toxic tort litigation and the provision of general civil litigation counseling to clients. Karen also offers healthcare risk management services, training, and seminars. Her clients include healthcare facilities, physicians, professional liability insurers, healthcare professional associations, and state and national organizations. Karen has represented clients before administrative agencies and state and federal courts throughout the states of Kentucky and Indiana. She has been licensed to practice law in Kentucky since 1993 and in Indiana since 1994.

Karen is a graduate of the University of Kentucky (B.A., 1990) where she served as President of the Delta Rho Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, and the University of Louisville College of Law (J.D., 1993). After graduating from UK, Karen served as an intern for the Kentucky State Legislature in the Senate Minority Leadership Office. While receiving her juris doctorate, Karen served as a law clerk at Weber & Rose, PSC, where she continued to work upon graduation. Karen practiced law with Weber & Rose, PSC as an associate for 6 years, then as a shareholder and partner until July of 2008. Prior to her partnership with McMasters and Butler, Karen was a member and partner at Napier Gault Keith, PLC, where she continued her practice in medical negligence, professional liability defense, insurance defense and general civil litigation.

Karen previously served as a Barrister (2000-2002) for the Louis D. Brandeis American Inn of Court, and was a member of the Leadership Kentucky Class of 2007. Karen devotes much of her time to philanthropic endeavors. She has served on the Board of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Kentucky Opera and the Louisville Bar Foundation. She completed a term as Board Chair of the Medical News Board of Trustees. Karen also participates in several professional organizations specific to her work in defense of professional liability claims and is a member of Defense Research Institute, the Kentucky Society for Healthcare Risk Management, Kentucky Defense Counsel and the Kentucky Academy of Hospital Attorneys.

Karen has been recognized as a contributor to The Risk Management Handbook for Healthcare Professionals, Edited by Joseph S. Sanfilippo, M.D., M.B.A., and Clayton L. Robinson, J.D (2001). She frequently serves as an invited speaker/panelist for professional organizations throughout the country and provides continuing education programs on risk management and medical malpractice litigation to physicians and nurses throughout the nationwide.

Karen is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, and the Louisville Bar Association.
